He Dreams of Friends - 2026-04-17
Welcome to the Sunday late-night edition of Blue Note Dispatch. On this last stretch of a lovely weekend I hope you'll get some new surprises in your eardrums.
Let's start with obli and his latest release "He Dreams of Friends", which landed just a few days ago on London's Anjunadeep imprint. One perfect for the late Sunday listen. It sits comfortably in Anjunadeep's signature lane - deep, melodic, emotionally literate - with a title that tells you everything about where this track wants to take you.
Tinariwen are the Tuareg desert blues legends from the Adrar des Ifoghas, the Saharan mountains straddling northern Mali and southern Algeria - a homeland they had to leave in exile to record 2017's Elwan.
It's one of those rare cross-cultural collaborations that feels inevitable rather than engineered - hypnotic guitar loops, warm sand-worn vocals, and a quiet ache underneath the whole thing. I thought it would be a nice addition to a list otherwise filled with electronic music.
Finally, let's welcome Romain Nouhi, the Paris-based producer behind Sunrom. He has been crafting ethereal and atmospheric electronica since 2012, with releases on Kompakt, Slowciety, and Ano Ano.
"State Trooper" is his humble tribute to Bruce Springsteen, reworking the Boss's haunted 1982 Nebraska track into a dreamy, hypnotic piece of electronic storytelling - a beautiful example of what happens when two very different musical worlds genuinely listen to each other.
And with this lovely tune (available on Bandcamp) I wish you all the best of nights.
XoXo
