Welcome to another summer rendition of Blue Note Dispatch. In this episode we'll jump between eras and genres.
Welcome to another summer rendition of Blue Note Dispatch. In this episode we'll jump between eras and genres.
Opening this week's selection is Manjumasi's release number forty-five, coming from Italian producer Bar.ba. "Velvet Lathe" is the most delicate and sensitive of the lot, flowery melodies intertwining with quirky vocal edits. "Mechanical Heart" moves into a more angular, abstract realm with dirty bass, edgy textures and complex overtones in a ripping synth lead.
Next is one of my favourites - Andre Lodemann, the Berlin deep house veteran, with his "For Those Who Care". Six minutes of thoughtful, perfectly built groove from someone who has spent three decades caring about exactly this.
Lastly, we look back to 1970, when Miles Davis and his all-star cast were busy inventing fusion. "Recollections" is one of the quietest and most beautiful moments to come out of those legendary sessions.
Have a wonderful week,
XoXo
