Welcome to this beautiful, sunny Sunday and another musical journey with Blue Note Dispatch.
Welcome to this beautiful, sunny Sunday and another musical journey with Blue Note Dispatch.
We start with a fresh release straight from the legendary Ninja Tune label. "THIEF" is another example of exploring the boundaries of British jazz. Chopped strings, fat broken beats, and Jersey club rhythms all come together in a mix that works equally well on the dancefloor and in your headphones.
"Meine Muse" from today's selection is a rework of The Düsseldorf Düsterboys' original. In his version, Philipp Johann Thimm creates a flamboyant mix of krautrock and indie electronica. A lovely late-summer kind of track for anyone who likes their pop a little hazy around the edges.
The last track on today's list is "Ambassador Cathedral" from Phil Cook's solo album Appalachia Borealis. The track has a beautiful story behind it: while Brian Joseph was mixing the record in Eau Claire, they noticed the cardinals outside would sing when the music was playing and fall silent when it stopped, so they opened the studio door to the woods and recorded the birds duetting with the piano. You can hear them in the last stretch of the song, and it's a quiet little miracle.
Have a wonderful day,
XoXo
