Good evening to all the late-night oil burners. We're back with another set of fresh picks for your pleasure.
Good evening to all the late-night oil burners. We're back with another set of fresh picks for your pleasure.
This week's feature track is coming straight from Belman, a Parisian DJ and producer with a vinyl digger's instincts, moving freely between disco, house, and the occasional detour into minimal and dance territory. "Sleepyhead" comes from his Lost in Transition release and takes us on an eight-minute stroll of warm, unhurried texture. Give it a moment to settle in, let the synths breathe and guide you.
Next we have another appearance from Sunrom, whose remix of "State Trooper" was here a few weeks back. This time we can immerse ourselves in sounds reminiscent of the UK 90s era, with a wonderful vocal and a slightly melancholic vibe.
In 2016, the debut LP Shapes In Formation was released by Gary Caruth under his stage name Sad City. "Steady Jam" is a track that really captivates the listener, and if given a chance, it will steadily, as the name implies, carry you through. The magic comes from a pair of beautifully chosen samples: Bettye Swann's 1969 soul cover of "Little Things Mean a Lot" carries the vocals, while the drums are lifted from John Coltrane Quartet's "Africa".
Have a great week,
XoXo
