sunrise at plötzensee - 2026-05-05
Good evening, lovelies. The wait for new picks is over, and we're here with some fresh ones for this week. A bit of a globe-trotting selection tonight - from a Berlin lake at dawn, to a Yorkshire studio, to a small Scottish village in 1998.
Good evening, lovelies. The wait for new picks is over, and we're here with some fresh ones for this week. A bit of a globe-trotting selection tonight - from a Berlin lake at dawn, to a Yorkshire studio, to a small Scottish village in 1998.
We'll start with Loutouse, a young Berlin-based producer working at the intersection of ambient, synth-driven electronica, and gentle techno. "sunrise at plötzensee" is a love letter to his city in miniature. Plötzensee is the small lake in the Wedding district of northwest Berlin. Released on the legendary Cologne imprint TRAUM Schallplatten, which has been featured here many times over the past year.
Jackson Swaby is a designer and music producer who treats music and painting as the same language - figureless, emotional, deeply tactile. "Keep Walking On" comes from his latest Shades EP and lives somewhere in that warm, hand-built corner of UK electronica where soul, dub, and bedroom-studio intimacy all meet. This track sounds a bit like its title - the kind of thing you put on when you need a small push and a steady pace.
Lastly, we dive back to the year 1998, when John Martyn had his take on Portishead's "Glory Box". This version strips the trip-hop original down to bone. What really shines here is Martyn's smoke-cured voice leading over a backdrop of guitar riffs.
And one more for the road - Iain O'Hare's edit of Gaelle's "Give It Back", a Leeds-built rework of the 2000s deep house classic that lives only on Bandcamp, so you'll have to head over there to hear it.
Have a wonderful week,
XoXo
